Bandanas Barbecue: Bandana's- Bar-B-Q is Southern Style BBQ - seasoned with a "dry rub" and cooked sauceless, then hand-cut to order straight from the smoker. All Bandana's pork, beef, chicken and ribs are specially prepared over a pit of select hardwoods to create our signature smoked flavor. This slow cooking process - 14 hours for pork butts and special beef cuts, 5 hours for ribs and chicken - makes the meat tender and tasty, and gives it a reddish color known as a "smoke line." Our real wood smokers operate 24 hours a day, so you can "smell that smoke" any time you visit Bandana's!

Subject: Slab of Goodness with a pile of Fries

We met our friends tonight for a get together at Bandanas Barbecue in Ankeny. Our party consisted of 8 kids and 9 adults. We did call ahead and they had a table ready for us. Our waitress did a pretty good job keeping our drinks full considering she was solo. Everybody was pleased with the taste and variety of items on the menu. I ordered the slab of ribs which came with a large bowl of coleslaw and pile of fries. There was enough food for 2 people or 1 big guy like me. The ribs were very tender and tasted great. They are dry rubbed leaving the option to try 1 of their 5 sauces.

It's the best BBQ in Ankeny. Some, but not a lot of the silly stuff that some BBQ places feel like they have to put on the menu to pull in the. The pulled pork is excellent as is the brisket and the ribs. I don't care at all for the garlic bread or what ever they give you with the plate, so I just ask them to substitute a bun and I make my own sandwich. Works great and it's cheaper. Beans are good and the slaw is passible. I'm pretty hard core: meat, BBQ beans, slaw. You can keep the apple fritters and green beans. That's for yuppies. shaking head

I live in Ankeny and this is the BBQ place we go most often. The meat is slow-smoked and very tender, and there is a wide variety of sauces to choose from. The sweet and smoky sauce they have is the best in town, I believe. I even buy bottles to take home with me. Service is almost always fast and friendly, and the price is reasonable.

Only been once, the bbq chicken nacho's are a great starter to share, or make a meal in itself. Had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich as did a friend, and had a bad burnt taste to it. Waitress informed the kitchen who took the meal off the menu for that day when they tasted it. But the replacement beef sandwich they gave me was good. Love the award winning sweet sauce, could drink that on it's own !
