The Royal Mile: Described as downtown living room this pub offers all the same character and ambiance that you would find at a true British pub, complete with knowledgeable staff serving great pub classics such as fish & chips, steak and Guinness pie, and bangers and mash. Enjoy a great setting with softly glowing lamps, dark woodwork throughout, and an inviting fireplace. The Royal Mile offers over 150 bottled beers, 28 on tap, and a large selection of single malt scotch. Upstairs, visit the Red Monk, a Belgian bar and over 70 beers to choose from. Outdoor courtyard open from St. Patricks Day to Halloween.

Being a Brit living in Des Moines this is one of my favourite hang outs. Great selection of english beers. Friends often ask me if it's like a traditional english pub, and it's not, but not that bad of a deal, because most traditional english pubs are not somewhere you want to hang out.

My suggestons, everybody has to try the scotch egg, a hard boiled egg, covered in sausage meat, breadcrumbs, and deep fried. Have to admit that the Royal Mile is the only place i've ever eatten them hot. Normally in the uk they are served as a cold snack.

Sheppards Pie is good, lots of food (not as good as mine, but i've been asked by a multiple people including a head chef for my recipe). Cornish Pasty is another favourite, and the dish my friend orders more than anything else.

For a great refreshing drink to wash it all down ask for a "strongbow". english cider, great on a hot day.
